Friday the 13th — There's a Friday the 13th this month, but it's a lucky day — for black cats, anyway. Many years ago, Gertrude Maxwell, founder of Save a Pet Inc., had a dream that she would save every black cat on Friday the 13th that she could.

Not only did she go on to save black cats, but more than 80,000 cats and dogs — and she recently pledged to save every animal in Palm Beach. PB Cats plans to honor her 96th birthday, April 17 (she was born on the same date and year —1911 — that Palm Beach was incorporated).

So, happy birthday to both!

This precious pet did not deserve to die!

Gertrude Maxwell pleaded for his life on

radio and begged for an adoptive home.

When she took a family to a local animal

shelter early Monday morning to adopt

him it was too late.
